A practicing member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1981, Nigel Macleod has been a mediator since 1991. Nigel carries on a blended practice of law and mediation and he is an Ottawa mediator for the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program – Ottawa. He has qualified as a practicing member of the Association of Conflict Resolution (previous 1997 advanced accreditation with the Academy of Family Mediators) and an accredited family mediator with the OAFM. He is the past President of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (Ottawa Region). Nigel has trained extensively in transformative mediation and has acquired academic certification in Addiction Counseling. His training in settlement-based mediation has included an advanced curriculum in multi-party negotiation at Harvard Law School.
Nigel Macleod was one of the original selections for the position of mediator and arbitrator for the Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company. He has been appointed as a roster mediator for the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Pilot ADR Program and taught Negotiation to lawyers at the Law Society’s Bar Admission ADR Course.
Nigel Macleod is an experienced dispute resolution practitioner and has demonstrated strong leadership in the emergence and growth of Canadian collaborative family law. In particular, his pioneering work in Ontario has contributed to the development of collaborative family law in Ontario (founding member of Toronto’s Collaborative Law Association; founding President of Ottawa’s Collaborative Law Network; founding delegate and the First President of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation. Nigel Macleod is the current past President and Director of this provincial federation after a two year term as Founding President.
